Dawn Hasan Raza holds Rawalpindi to draw

The four-day Quaid-i-Azam Trophy match between leaders Karachi Whites and Rawalpindi ended in a draw at the Pindi Cricket Stadium on Friday with the home side pocketing first innings lead points.

A late declaration by Rawalpindi let Karachi Whites off the hook as they finished at 146 for five after being set a victory 294 in a minimum of 52 overs.

Rawalpindi, who resumed this morning at 210 for five, batted for 20 odd overs on the final morning in which they added 57 runs to be dismissed for 89.5 overs.

Rawalpindi's Test fast bowler Mohammad Akram picked up the wickets of Shahid Afridi (19), Shadab Kabir (0) and Mohammad Ghazan (1) to leave Karachi Whites play for survival.

Discarded Test batsman Hasan Raza came for the tourists rescue with a defiant unbeaten knock of 58 for which he occupied the crease for 17 minutes over three hours. His 144-ball innings was studded with seven boundaries.

Together with Mohammad Masroor (23), Hasan added 60 runs for the fifth wicket.

When played ended in the eighth mandatory over, stand-in skipper Atiq-uz-Zaman was batting with Hasan on 6.

Mohammad Akram displayed his firepower finishing with 3 for 38 from 13 overs.

Earlier, the last five Rawalpindi wickets could add 57 runs.

Test leg-spinner Danish Kaneria took 4 for 90 in31.5 overs while Shahid Afridi and Mohammad Sami grabbed two eachfor 42 and 34 runs respectively.
