Aizazuddin named team manager 6 January 2001
Former first-class cricketer Faqir Aizazuddin was appointed Pakistan team manager for the twin tours of New Zealand and Sharjah. A spokesman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said the decision was taken in the two-day advisory council meeting which started at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, on Friday. Aizaz toured England with Hanif Mohammad's team in 1967. He also toured England with the Pakistan Eaglets in the mid 60s. The spokesman of the PCB added that three top ranking board officials Chairman Lt Gen Tauqir Zia, director PCB Brig Munawwar Rana and Yawar Saeed, member PCB advisory council will attend next month's International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting at Melbourne. On the first day of the meeting, it was also decided to recommend two minor beneficiaries in April's Sharjah Cup after Majid Khan refused to accept the benefit. Taslim Arif and Khalid Ibadullah will equally share Majid's purse while Sarfraz Nawaz will remain as major beneficiary. The meeting will also decide the appointment of a selector in place of Iqbal Qasim who has been elevated as chief selector of junior. Ijaz Fakih's name is being circulated as the most likely replacement. The appointment of Geoffrey Boycott for 15 days at a massive 30,000 pounds sterling contract is also under discussion. According to sources, there was a split in the advisory council members with majority against the former England captain.
