According to a Daily Mirror report, Dammika Ranatunga, the suspended Chief Executive of the Sri Lankan Cricket Board, is to be dismissed this weekend after an Executive Committee meeting.
Ranatunga had previously been suspended pending an inquiry into his tenure. He has been accused of not adhering to proper procedures and of refusing to carry out decisions of the Executive Committee.
According to the newspaper report the inquiry has now been completed and was submitted to the Board on Wednesday evening. What is more, the report states that, "the Board Ex-co will find enough and more reasons to eliminate Ranatunga from the job. Some charges are of a very grave nature."
Ranatunga had refused to co-operate with the inquiry. He was unhappy with the appointment of three lawyers – Kolitha Dharmawardena, Prassana Obeyesekere and Ali Sabry – whom he claimed had close business links with Thilanga Sumithapala, the cricket board President.
However, Ranatunga has remained largely silent on the matter and is believed to be preparing a legal challenge to his dismissal.
Anura Tennekoon, the former Sri Lankan captain and now `acting' Chief Executive, is expected to be offered the job on a permanent basis.
