PCB clarifies on 'spokesman' issue, directs youngsters to consult local coaches before approaching the Board Pakistan Cricket Board - 23 February 2001
1. PCB "Spokesman" In the recent days a number of news items have appeared in some papers that have quoted a "spokesman" of the PCB on various issues. This includes a recent report on the McDonald's sponsorship of the PCB Cricket Academy. The PCB reiterates that authentic news emanating from the PCB Secretariat is only the one that is officially issued by its Media Office, or is given personally by the Director PCB, who is himself handling media affairs. All other stories quoting so-called "spokesman" do not have official PCB approval.
2. Trails On Request Over a period of time a number of young players from all over Pakistan have been requested PCB to see them in the nets, claiming to have lot of potential in cricket. Very recently all such players were called to appear for trails at Lahore and were seen in the nets by the PCB Academy coach, Mr. Mudassar Nazar, Mr. Ali Zia and Mr. Azhar Khan. Most of the players turned out to be average who needed to improve their cricket skills by playing more club cricket. Similarly players from other places will also be given a chance when the PCB coaches visit their areas, i.e., Karachi, Rawalpindi and Peshawar. Whereas the PCB appreciates the great desire on the part of youngsters to play higher level cricket, yet we are also constrained to advise all such hopefuls that they must consult their local coaches and senior players before approaching PCB directly. Like this a lot of time and money will be saved.
