ICC Approves Seeding and Pool System for 2003 World Cup 13 February 2001
The Executive Committee of the International Cricket Council has approved the UCB's proposed system for seeding and pool allocations for teams competing in the 2003 Cricket World Cup in Southern Africa.
"We believe that the proposal we submitted is the fairest possible way of allocating teams to the two pools for the 2003 Cricket World Cup. The system is based on each team's percentage wins in One-Day Internationals from the end of the 1999 World Cup to the end of September 2001. The reason for this cut-off date is that it is our intention to announce the programme of matches in October 2001," said Dr Ali Bacher, the Executive Director of the 2003 Cricket World Cup. At the end of each month until September, the current percentage wins of each team as well as the pool allocations as they fall according to each month's standings will be released. The Percentage wins and pool allocations as at 13 February 2001 are attached. The ICC has agreed to the teams being allocated on the following basis:
This system ensures that Team 1 has the advantage of being pooled with Team 4, and so on. The other three teams which will join the system will be known after the ICC Associate Members Trophy in July 2001. Limited Overs International Results 21 June 1999 to 13 February 2001
Note: The %Won calculation excludes "No Result" matches Pools as based on above percentages (If the cut-off date were 13 February these would be the pool allocations - these will change in the coming months according to performance)
