Petra School Report Otis Msundire - 9 February 2001
To date Petra have played two games and performed satisfactorily. With a very small player base to select from and not many talented individuals we have struggled a bit; the staff are keen but unfortunately are not qualified. So I would like to turn to the ZCU and find out if we can get some help to advance the game in our school. We are also struggling for facilities and the biggest setback is not having our own fields. However we hope that these facilities will be up and running in the not too distant future, in about two years' time. On the weekend of 27 January we played games against Kyle College of Masvingo. The teams that played the fixture were the first XI, Under-16, Under-15 and Under-14. The first team lost their game by 10 runs (Kyle 93 all out, Petra 83 all out), the Under-16 team won by five wickets (Kyle 72 all out, Petra 74 for 5 wickets) whilst the Under-15 team won by 10 runs (Petra 102 all out, Kyle 92 all out). The Under-14 team drew their game; having won the toss and elected to bat, they scored 163 runs for three declared whilst their opposition were 110 for 5 at the close of play. Outstanding performances were as follows; T. Mubaiwa 29 runs for 1st XI; for the Under-16s M. Bolton 20 runs not out and 3 wickets, D. Williams 4 wickets, R. Dimes 28; M. Rae 47 runs for the Under-15s; and S. Wilson 54 not out, C. McGill 30 runs, S. Laxmidas 20 not out for the Under-14s. GAME 2 v MILTON, played on 3 February 2001 Of the four games played, Petra lost three, with our Under-15 team winning again. The first XI lost by an innings and 41 runs (Milton 215 all out, Petra 54 all out and 110 all out), the Under-16 team lost by 49 runs (Milton 107 all out, Petra 58 all out), the Under-15 team won their game by 41 runs, and the Under-14 team lost their game by 68 runs (Milton 154 all out, Petra 86 all out). Outstanding performances were as follows:
First XI: *A. Parmer 3 for 36 runs, K. Fry and K. Rae 2 wickets each; This coming weekend we take on Plumtree, away. We will travel with four teams. News on other schools performances is as follows: Plumtree has played three games so far against Falcon, MCC, and CBC. Against Falcon all teams lost, with the first team losing by five wickets. Against MCC the 1st XI lost while the rest of the teams won comfortably. Against CBC the 1st XI lost by 200 runs, with the rest of the teams losing as well. Down the road from us, CBC first XI has won one game(v Plumtree) and have lost 2 games, to Milton by 25 runs and to Falcon by 10 wickets. Milton has had a very good season so far, beating CBC 1st XI, Jameson and Petra. Falcon has enjoyed their season to date with two wins in two games (v Plumtree and CBC).
