Musharraf advises PCB selectors 3 February 2001
Pakistan Chief Executive Gen Pervez Musharraf reminded the cricket selectors that they need to keep merit as the only criteria for picking the national side. The chief executive was speaking at the closing ceremony of the final one-day practice game at KRL stadium. While appreciating the bunch of young talent emerging as "wonderful", the general hoped that merit will be the only criteria for the selection of the Pakistan team. General Musharraf also announced cash awards of Rs 250,000 each for both the teams. He also thanked the KRL management for organizing an excellent match. Earlier, nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan renamed the KRL stadium as General Pervez Musharraf Stadium. Dr Khan hoped that Pakistan sports will progress if due patronage was given to games like hockey, squash, football and athletics.
