Author/producer appointed to 2003 World Cup committee 1 February 2001
Author and television producer Coco Cachalia has been appointed to the 2003 Cricket World Cup Policy Committee. "In recognition of the significant support amongst women for cricket, the UCBSA's Executive Committee last December acknowledged it needed a woman on the 2003 Cricket World Cup Policy Committee who is a cricket enthusiast and who could make a valuable contribution to the successful planning of the 2003 Cricket World Cup," said the committee's Executive Director, Dr Ali Bacher. "We are pleased to announce that the General Council of the UCBSA has appointed Coco Cachalia to the committee." Cachalia is joint managing director of Kagiso Educational Television (KET), an award-winning television production company specializing in the production of high quality educational media. Mrs Cachalia also wrote the abridged version of Nelson Mandela's autobiography, Long Walk to Freedom, as well as producing an accessible version of the Bill of Rights for the Legal Resources Unit. She has committed her life to ensuring that all South Africans can enjoy a better life. Mrs Cachalia has been a dedicated cricket follower since an early age and her knowledge and passion for the game will ensure that she will play an important role in the planning of the 2003 World Cup.
