Hyderabad forced to follow on Staff Reporter - 28 December 2001
Andhra Pradesh bowled Hyderabad out for 180 in their first innings, forcing them to follow on in their Ranji Trophy league match at Secunderabad on Thursday. Overnight on 55/1, Hyderabad lost wickets at regular intervals, and none of the batsmen could convert a start into a significant score. A Nand Kishore, at the top of the order, was the top-scorer, making 54 patiently off 208 balls. He was the seventh wicket to fall, with the score on 135, and only Jogram Shivaji Yadav lower down the order contributed further, making a brisk 36. Hyderabad did not do much better following on. At the close of play, they were on 68/2, with Nand Kishore unbeaten on 34 off 111. He was accompanied by Vanka Pratap, unbeaten on 12 at stumps. Sriram gives Tamil Nadu the edge Opener Sridharan Sriram struck 78, giving Tamil Nadu the upper hand in their Ranji Trophy league match against Kerala at Chennai on Thursday. Kerala scraped past the 200-run mark thanks to the efforts of K Rejith Kumar, who converted his overnight 40 into 69 valuable runs. He was the ninth wicket to fall, with the score on 221. Indian pace sensation Tinu Yohannan was the last wicket to fall, leaving Kerala dismissed for 223. Tamil Nadu's openers started slowly, with Sriram playing in his usual vein and fellow opener Sadagoppan Ramesh trying to play himself back into form. The usually fluent Ramesh made an unbeaten 41 off 188 balls, striking no boundaries in his knock. He lost Sriram with the score on 118, but took Tamil Nadu through to the close of play with a considerable advantage. He was accompanied by Hemang Badani, who was unbeaten on 4. Karnataka register nine-wicket win Karnataka chased a fourth-innings target of 65 with few hiccups to register a nine-wicket win over Goa in their Ranji Trophy league match at Bangalore on Thursday. Goa, resuming at 159/7, were bowled out for 198 in their second innings. Sunil Joshi was the architect of Karnataka's fine bowling performance, taking 4-47. For the visitors, BKP Misquin was the best batsman on display, making an unbeaten 41 off 103 balls. Chasing their target, the home side lost skipper J Arunkumar halfway there, but KS Ponnappa and Barrington Rowland saw Karnataka safely through to a victory that gives them eight points by virtue of an outright win. © CricInfo
