Aware, Amonkar fight back for Goa Staff Reporter - 27 December 2001
Bowling out Karnataka between them, Avadoot Amonkar and Avinash Aware brought Goa marginally back into their Ranji Trophy league match at Bangalore on Wednesday. Humiliatingly bowled out for 80, Goa dismissed Karnataka for 214, with the last nine wickets falling for only 59 runs. Aware picked 5-58, while Amonkar took 5-76. For Karnataka, J Arunkumar was dismissed on his overnight score of 77, while only Barrington Rowland contributed further, making 54. Goa did better with the bat in their second innings, but they were still reeling at 159/7 at stumps. Tanveer Jabbar top-scored, making 53 off 63 balls, but he fell as the fourth wicket. Goa had thus wiped off the first-innings deficit, but they still need to bat spectacularly to avoid a defeat, let along register a win.
