Andhra Pradesh grind out a dull Day Two Staff Reporter - 27 December 2001
Andhra Pradesh batted defensively for much of Day Two in their Ranji Trophy league match against Hyderabad at Secunderabad on Wednesday. Y Venugopal Rao and IG Srinivas, resuming on 106 and 91 respectively, went on to add thirty more runs before the latter was dismissed. Just having completed his century, Srinivas left for 101, made off 234 balls with 14 fours. Venugopal Rao was the seventh wicket to fall, with the score on 319. He made 146 in a painstaking manner, off 395 balls with 19 fours. His knock, along with Srinivas', formed the foundation for Andhra Pradesh's final total of 365, ground out in 151.4 overs. In reply, Hyderabad were 55/1 at the close of play. Daniel Manohar was dismissed for 18, but A Nand Kishore and Anirudh Singh took Hyderabad safely through to stumps, making 22 and 12 respectively. Kerala crawl along on wet Day Two Amidst rain interruptions and pitch inspections, Kerala crawled to 175/7 on Day Two of their Ranji Trophy league match against Tamil Nadu at Chennai on Wednesday. Only 65.2 overs of play were possible on the day, and Kerala made 131 runs off them. L Balaji, for Tamil Nadu, took 5-56, scything through the batting line-up. K Rejith Kumar was the top-scorer for the visitors, making an unbeaten 40 off 59 balls. He was the only bright spark on the day, though. Kerala ended the day almost certain in the knowledge that, despite their poor batting performance, the weather had denied Tamil Nadu an outright win. Two days remain to be played, however, and the home side will be looking to make the most of them. Aware, Amonkar fight back for Goa Bowling out Karnataka between them, Avadoot Amonkar and Avinash Aware brought Goa marginally back into their Ranji Trophy league match at Bangalore on Wednesday. Humiliatingly bowled out for 80, Goa dismissed Karnataka for 214, with the last nine wickets falling for only 59 runs. Aware picked 5-58, while Amonkar took 5-76. For Karnataka, J Arunkumar was dismissed on his overnight score of 77, while only Barrington Rowland contributed further, making 54. Goa did better with the bat in their second innings, but they were still reeling at 159/7 at stumps. Tanveer Jabbar top-scored, making 53 off 63 balls, but he fell as the fourth wicket. Goa had thus wiped off the first-innings deficit, but they still need to bat spectacularly to avoid a defeat, let along register a win. © CricInfo
