Half-centuries from captain Vijay Dahiya and Akash Chopra saw the powerful Delhi side thrash Jammu and Kashmir in the Ranji one-dayer at Burlton Park, Jullundur on Sunday.

Disciplined bowling from the Delhi bowlers restricted J&K to 173 for seven after the latter won the toss and elected to bat. Indian left-arm seamer Ashish Nehra, in particular, was outstanding, returning figures of 5-2-7-1. For J&K, Guru Pratap Singh top-scored with a quickfire 43 off 47 balls.

When Delhi replied, Dahiya and Chopra were in fine form. Dahiya, a former Indian wicket-keeper, made an attacking 81 off 82 balls while Chopra remained unbeaten on 74 off 113 balls as Delhi overhauled the target in just 36 overs. Gautam Gambhir was the other not out batsman. Delhi claimed five points from the match.

Punjab's batting might overwhelms Haryana

A century from Punjab opener Manish Sharma and a fiery unbeaten 81 off 46 balls from India discard Yuvraj Singh powered the home side to a 60-run win over Haryana at the Dhruv Pandove stadium in Patiala.

Sharma and Reetinder Singh Sodhi, who made 78 off 94 balls, got Punjab off to a rollicking start putting on 194 runs in 33.5 overs before Sodhi was dismissed. Sharma , who had completed his century, was around for a while longer before being out for 124 off 120 balls.

Yuvraj, who had replaced Sodhi, provided the fireworks in the end as Punjab posted a mammoth 321 for seven in their 50 overs.

When Haryana replied, No. 4 Shafiq Khan made a noteworthy 119 off 122 balls but the fact that there was no significant support from the other end meant that the visitors were humbled easily. Punjab claimed four points for the win. Haryana though did enough to ensure that they have qualified for the Wills Trophy from the North Zone.

Services outplay Himachal Pradesh

An aggressive hundred from Yashpal Singh was the highlight of Services' 32-run win over Himachal Pradesh at the Punjab Cricket Association stadium at Mohali.

Services got off to a good start after they had been put in, with opener Sarabjit Singh making 57 and No. 3, Jasvir Singh, 33. But the most productive phase of their innings came when Yashpal and captain Sanjay Verma (66* off 63 balls) came together. The partnership realised 162 runs in 21.5 overs before Yashpal was out for a well-made 104 off 91 balls. Their hard-hitting helped Services who set Himachal a target of 298.

When Himachal replied, opener Sandeep Sharma was at his aggressive best. Sharma made 104 off 97 balls before being dismissed when the score was on 199. At that stage, Himachal needed 99 runs from 15.4 overs with seven wickets in hand. The rest of the batsmen though did not prove upto the challenge as Himachal ended their innings on 265 for nine. Services claimed four points for the win.
