Karnataka register nine-wicket win Staff Reporter - 21 December 2001
Karnataka completed the formalities and notched up a nine-wicket win over Kerala in their Ranji Trophy league match at Bangalore on Friday. The home side put up 342 for their first-innings total; the overnight score was advanced largely by a whirlwind 43 off 56 balls from Dodda Ganesh lower down the order. He was the ninth wicket to fall, with the score on 338 after striking seven fours and ensured a first-innings lead of more than 100 runs. Ganesh then swung into action with the ball as well. Along with seam-mate Venkatesh Prasad, Ganesh ripped through the Kerala batting, ending with 4-47. Prasad, at the other end, took 4-31 off 20 overs. Kerala could only muster a total of 187 in 60 overs, helped largely by M Suresh Kumar's unbeaten 53 lower down the order. Set a target of 74, Karnataka ended Day Three on 38/0 and then proceeded to canter to victory early on Day Four. KS Ponnappa fell along the way, but, ending the innings at 77/1, the hosts have garnered themselves eight points by virtue of an outright victory. Vinay Kumar, Yadav score centuries Hyderabad earned a 94-run first-innings lead over Goa in their Ranji Trophy league match at Panaji on Thursday. Overnight batsmen Arjun Yadav and D Vinay Kumar were the architects of a strong Hyderabad fight-back. Shepherding their side from a tottering position, each of them scored hundreds and put on 290 runs for the fifth wicket. Vinay Kumar made 126 off 298 balls, with 14 fours and a six, while Yadav scored 155 off 306 balls, with 18 fours and two sixes. Hyderabad thus made 400 in their first innings, leaving Goa with a deficit of 94 runs. Playing out 11.3 overs at the end of Day Three, Goa's openers took their side to 28 for no loss by the close of play. © CricInfo
