Sandeep Sharma scores ton in vain Staff Reporter - 20 December 2001
Sandeep Sharma's steady century was unrewarded as Delhi won their Ranji one-day match against Himachal Pradesh by seven wickets on Wednesday at Mohali. Delhi won the toss and opted to field. Although one opener, Rajeev Nayyar, was dismissed early, Sandeep Sharma was not that easy to send back. Batting until he became the ninth wicket to fall, Sandeep's 104 off 153 balls (10x4, 1x6) was the spine of Himachal's innings. Only Virender Sharma (52 off 84 balls) provided Sandeep any modicum of support. The innings, consequently ended at 197/9. In reply, Delhi knocked off the runs in just 44.1 overs. Akash Chopra (57) and Vijay Dahiya (46) provided a good start, and after Gautam Gambhir made 43, the match was all but over. Delhi ended their innings at 198/3, winning their match by seven wickets. © CricInfo
