Surrey announce re-development at the AMP Oval Media Release - 12 December 2001
Surrey County Cricket Club received planning permission from the London Borough of Lambeth last night for their ambitious project to redevelop the AMP Oval. Paul Sheldon, Surrey County Cricket Club Chief Executive stated: "This is a gigantic milestone in the history of the Club. Our plans will enable us to modernise all our facilities and increase our seating capacity to 23,500. "The demand for international cricket at the AMP Oval has been growing year by year and we are delighted that we will soon be able to satisfy so many supporters who have been disappointed in the past. "We now need to start the necessary funding and hope to start the building within two years. This is a huge boost for cricket." Michael Soper, Surrey County Cricket Club Chairman stated: "Having been oversubscribed this summer by over 30,000 requests for tickets, we can now satisfy the needs of our Members and cricket lovers throughout the Country. "It is also a great reward for all the hard work Paul Sheldon and his team have put in over the last 3 years." © Surrey CCC
