ICC Appoints In House Lawyer
ICC Media Release - 5 December 2001

Legal Appointment adds expertise to ICC Management Team

The ICC has added to the expertise of its senior management team with the appointment of the organisation's first in house lawyer. Urvasi Naidoo, currently working as part of the Salt Lake Organising Committee for Olympic Winter Games of 2002, will join the ICC in April next year.

Urvasi is a specialist in sports law and has worked as a solicitor in practices in the UK since the early 1990s. Her current post as a Brand Protection lawyer in Utah includes legal protection of the Olympic brand and responsibility for sponsors' commercial exclusivity. She will leave this post after the 2002 Winter Olympics and relocate to work from the ICC's offices at Lord's cricket ground.

"There is a sizeable and growing amount of complex legal work connected to the business of cricket and it is important that the world governing body has its own specialist resource to handle it in a professional and decisive way," commented Chief Executive Officer Malcolm Speed. "Urvasi will bring that level of expertise and directly relevant experience of sports law to the ICC," he added.

Urvasi is a member of the British Association for Sport and the Law and a member of The Law Society of England and Wales. Educated in the UK she holds both British and South African nationality.
