PCB official takes law into his hands 3 December 2001
A Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official bypassed all the laws of the land and created an embarrassing situation for one of his colleagues. According to information, acting manager of National Stadium, Razaullah Khan, sent his three staffers to raid the house of a watchman while probing a robbery in the stadium. Sources said NSK administrator Ansar, accompanied by assistant manager Arshad and chief groundsman Ehsan Arain, raided the house of Fazal earlier this week. Eye-witnesses said Fazal was left in tears when the raiding party arrived for house search. The raiding party was investigating the theft of carpets, chairs, an iron gate and electronic scoreboard cables. Witnesses further said when the three NSK staffers, on the directive of their boss, arrived, people of the locality gathered and pleaded the innocence of Fazal. Although no item could be unearthed, the poor watchman was left humiliated, insulted and were at a loss for words. Since the incident of the house search, the acting manager has been threatening watchman Fazal not to highlight the issue. "If you raise one word, you will pay," sources quoted Razaullah Khan as telling the watchman. However, Fazal has apparently turned a deaf ear to Razaullah's threat and has written his complaint to chairman of the PCB Lt Gen Tauqir Zia. A spokesman of the PCB said he would inquire about the incident Monday. He added that he was unsure if the acting manager of NSK had acted upon the powers vested in him. Nevertheless, it is common sense that any robbery or theft has to be reported to the law enforcing agencies who have a set procedure to investigate the matter. Razaullah is notoriously known for creating problems for his men. So much so, a few months back Lt Gen Tauqir Zia heard the grievances of the staffers and stripped Razaullah of some of his powers. Unfortunately, the PCB has been target of criticizm because of the follies of people like Razaullah who, enjoying the patronage of some of the top men, continue to behave ungentlemanly and harass and make life miserable for their staffers. © Dawn Source: Dawn Editorial comments can be sent to Dawn at webmaster@dawn.com |
