FIJI v HONG KONG at Nadi Muslim College
With a convincing victory over Fiji, Hong Kong have earned a spot in tomorrow?s Final of the inaugural ICC East Asia ? Pacific Under 19 Cricket Championships being staged in Nadi. They will take on the undefeated and very impressive Papua New Guinea line-up. International Test Umpire, Daryl Harper from Australia, will stand in the match with Fiji?s own Tony Cooper. The winner of this Final will qualify for the next ICC Under 19 World Cup in New Zealand in Jan/Feb 2002. There they will compete against all full member Test cricket nations, One Day International member, Kenya, and the four qualifiers from the other Regions of the International Cricket Council?s world-wide Development Program ? Africa, the Americas, Asia & Europe.
In today?s match, Fiji won the toss and batted and was all out 94 from 23.4 overs. Hong Kong?s opening bowler, Kieran Kumaria (man of the match), was the destroyer with 5/24. Yogesh Mahtani took 3/26. Opener Filimoni Waqabaca top scored with 26. In reply, Hong Kong reached the target set in less than 14 overs. Dyutish Chaudhuri secured victory with 63 from 49 balls.
