Floodlights to be used 20 August 2001
For the first time in the history of Pakistan cricket, Test matches might continue under lights. A spokesman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said lights will be operational to get the required number of overs in a day completed and to avoid the controversy that surrounded the last day of the third and final Test between Pakistan and England at the National Stadium. The spokesman said since floodlight-equipped Lahore and Karachi will be the hosts of three of the five Tests scheduled to be played in Pakistan this season, lights they would be switched on in the games against India (Asian Test Championship) and New Zealand, if required. "The Pakistan and New Zealand boards have agreed to continue play under lights to get the overs completed," the spokesman said. The International Cricket Council (ICC), in its latest modification in the laws of the game, have made it mandatory for the usage of lights on venues which have floodlights. The spokesman also said the announcement of the team for the Asian Test Championship match against Bangladesh has been deferred for two days. "The team will now be named on Aug 26 instead of Aug 24 after watching the three-dayer at the UBL Sports Complex," the announcement said. © Dawn Source: Dawn Editorial comments can be sent to Dawn at webmaster@dawn.com |
