Shah clinches young player of year award CricInfo - 18 August 2001
Middlesex batsman Owais Shah, who made his debut for England this summer in the NatWest series, has beaten seven rivals to win the prestigious Cricket Writers' Young Player of the Year award. Shah, who made five appearances for England in the one-day triangular tournament, will receive the trophy at an annual dinner in London on August 31. Yorkshire off-spinner Richard Dawson was also nominated as well as highly-rated Durham batsman Nicky Peng and Essex pair Will Jefferson and wicket-keeper Jamie Foster. Ian Bell of Warwickshire, Kent's Robert Key and Ian Blackwell of Somerset were also on the list of candidates.
