PCB comes to ICC's rescue 15 August 2001
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) came to the rescue of the International Cricket Council (ICC) by agreeing to host the game's governing body in Lahore in October. The week-long ICC meeting was earlier scheduled for Colombo in October. But the ICC officials were left bewildered when Sri Lankan officials expressed their inability to stage the summit for unexplained reasons. Sources said the PCB didn't disappoint the ICC who contacted Pakistan officials, probably after being left with little options. The conference is now slated at Lahore between Oct 12 and 19. The ICC's marketing and finance committee, ICC cricket management committee and ICC's executive board meetings will be held. As regards the cricket management committee, the most important discussion and decision to be made is regarding the selection of finalizing a bunch of 20 umpires who will only supervize Test matches. The cricket management committee meeting will be chaired by Australian Malcolm Speed who will be attending his first summit after taking over as ICC chief executive from David Richards in July. © Dawn Source: Dawn Editorial comments can be sent to Dawn at webmaster@dawn.com |
