Slimline Sports Club won the All Island Women's Cricket Association Challenge Trophy yesterday for the fourth consecutive time beating Colts Cricket Club by three wickets at Colts Cricket Club Grounds, Colombo.
This was the premier cricket tournament in the country and featured four teams, but having played just one game Duncan Sports Club withdrew form the tournament leaving just three teams.
The tournament was played in a round robin basis and Slimline won the trophy with four points while Colts Cricket Club ended up runners up with two points. Colombo Women Cricket Club ended in the last place losing their two matches.
In the crucial, title-deciding game yesterday between Slimline and Colts, Slimline came up victorious.
Winning the toss Slimline captain, Chamani Senevirathne put the opposition in and they reduced the Colts to just 83 all out in 43.5 overs.
During the Colts innings there were four run outs and rather than any exceptional spells from the opposition the batswomen are to be blamed for a disappointing display.
In reply Slimline, too, lost wickets at regular intervals, but a determined 40 off 79 deliveries by Hiruka Fernando with four boundaries took them to safety.
At the end, they reached the target with three wickets in hand in the 32nd over.
K.K. Indika who had a good all-round performance with the bat and the ball was declared the player of the match. She made 13 runs and captured two wickets for 16 runs. She also won the player of the tournament award.
