Overnight rain washes out final day at Northampton Robin Reid - 23 April 2001
Heavy overnight rain prevented any cricket on the final day of the Division One contest between Northamptonshire and Glamorgan at Wantage Road. Umpires Mervyn Kitchen and Allan Jones inspected the conditions before the scheduled start at 10.30am and ruled that no play was possible before lunch. Although no further rain fell during the morning the bowlers' run-ups remained very wet, and the match was abandoned as a draw at 1.30pm. Glamorgan were 66-1 in their second innings at Sunday night's close, an overall lead of 168, but any thoughts of an interesting final day were killed off by the weather. Northamptonshire take 10 points and Glamorgan 11. © CricInfo Ltd.
