Frank Tyson to attend to Mumbai fast bowlers from May 5 19 April 2001
Former England fast bowler Frank Tyson would attend to Mumbai's fast bowlers, who were found wanting this season, at the Wankhede Stadium from May 5. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) joint secretary, Prof Ratnakar Shetty told PTI on Thursday that the main purpose of Tyson's visit, who contributed to Mumbai cricket's revival in the 1990s through the BCA-Mafatlal bowling scheme, is to have a look at their pace bowlers. "When he was here in 1991, he did a fine job with the boys and bowlers like Abey Kuruvilla, Paras Mhambrey and leg spinner Sairaj Bahutule benefited a lot and we are hoping for the same kind of change to take place this time around as well", Shetty added." Tyson's guidance had helped Mumbai win the Ranji Trophy in 1993-94, after a lapse of eight years, under Ravi Shastri's captaincy. Shetty said inviting Tyson to have a pep talk with the Mumbai boys would be the first step towards improving Mumbai cricket. Mumbai were beaten by Punjab on home turf in the quarter-finals and then lost all their three one-day matches in the Champions Cup at Perth. "The MCA plans to have Tyson's services over a longer period as we are very keen about him. We will discuss about his availability after he arrives and might have a sponsored scheme similar to the earlier one", he added. © PTI
