Unpredictable PIA stunned by WAPDA 16 April 2001
Wapda upset the odds to defeat PIA by four wickets in the National One-day Departments Cricket Tournament match at Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot on Sunday. Mahmood Hamid lashed 135 off 130 balls with 12 fours and three sixes as PIA made 269 in 48.4 overs after winning the toss, according to details available here. WAPDA reached their target in 47.4 overs by scoring 272 for six. It was an unpredictable performance and result for the national carriers who had amassed 326 for no loss in their previous match to beat ADBP by more than 50 runs. Yasir Hameed, who hammered 74 off 102 deliveries with six hits to the fence, and Mahmood came together in a face-saving fifth wicket partnership of 158 in 31 overs after PIA had lost four wickets for 20 runs. All-rounder Kamran Hussain was pick of the bowlers with fine figures of four for 41 in nine overs. Rizwan Malik was WAPDA's batting hero. He struck nine boundaries in making 80 off 114 balls before he was run out by Ghulam Ali. © Dawn
