Andre Adams became 122nd player to represent New Zealand in One-Day Internationals.
Craig McMillan playing in his 85th match was captaining New Zealand for the first time in his career.He became 15th player to captain New Zealand in the shorter version of the game.
Sanath Jayasuriya was captaining Sri Lanka for the 50th time in his career. He became third Sri Lankan after Arjuna Ranatunga (193) and Duleep Mendis (61) and 22nd player in ODI history to lead his side in 50 or more matches. Just for the record, Jayasuriya with 31 wins and 17 losses from his 50 games enjoys the winning percentage of 62.00 which is the fifth best among the elite band of 22 captains after West Indian Clive Lloyd (Winning Percentage 75.90), South African Hansie Cronje (WP 71.74), West Indian Viv Richards (WP 64.15) and Australian Steve Waugh (WP 63.04).
Chris Harris was playing his 24th match against Sri Lanka. He has now equalled John Wright's record of appearing in most matches for New Zealand against Sri Lanka.
Sanath Jayasuriya (107) and Mahela Jayawerdene (116) provided the 36th instance of two batsmen from the same side scoring a hundred each in the same innings. This was also the third such instance for Sri Lanka. The details :

Jayasuriya hammered 30 runs in the 10th over from Chris Harris (43rd over of Sri Lankan innings). His sequence of 6,6,6,6,4,2 bettered his own previous record of 29 runs in an over off the bowling of Aamir Sohail at Singapore in a Singer Cup game on 02-04-1996 with a further run coming from a wide to make it 30 from the over. Hence Harris equalled the record of having bowled the most expensive one-day international over, with all runs coming from the bat this time. Incidentally the previous record for most runs off a single over at this ground was 27 runs scored by Rameez Raja and Moin Khan for Pakistan off the bowling of West Indian Ian Bishop on 13-10-1995.
The third wicket partnership of 184 runs between Jayasuriya and Jayawerdene was the best for Sri Lanka for this wicket against New Zealand obliterating the previous highest of 132 between Aravinda de Silva and Arjuna Ranatunga at Colombo SSC on 05-07-1998.
The hundred was 11th for Jayasuriya. He has now equalled Aravinda de Silva's Sri Lankan record of most hundreds in a career.
The hundred was Jayasuriya's third against New Zealand. His other three figure knocks being 140 (off 143 balls) at Bloemfontein on 08-12-1994 and 103 (off 83 balls) at Auckland on 06-02-2001.Jayasuriya has now scored most hundreds against New Zealand for Sri Lanka eclipsing Asanka Gurusinha's tally of two hundreds. Jayasuriya also joined the ranks of Australian Mark Waugh,England's David Gower,Indians Sachin Tendulkar and Saurav Ganguly, Pakistan's Rameez Raja, South Africa's Jacques Kallis and West Indian Gordon Greenidge. Now only Saeed Anwar (4) has made more hundreds than Jayasuriya against New Zealand.
Jayawerdene was reaching three figure mark for the fifth time in his career. He has now equalled the tally of Marvan Atapattu for Sri Lanka. Only Aravinda de Silva and Jayasuriya (11 each) are ahead of Jayawerdene.
Jayasuriya's run-aggregate against New Zealand at the end of this match reads as 873 from 26 matches @ 34.92 -another Sri Lankan record. Former skipper Arjuna Ranatunga with 840 runs from 35 matches @ 30.00 was the previous record holder for Sri Lanka.
Jayasuriya by hitting six sixes equalled the existing record of most sixes by a batsman in an innings at this ground. Australia's Simon O'Donnell during his innings of 74 against Sri Lanka on 02-05-1990 and India's Sachin Tendulkar during his innings of 124* against Zimbabwe on 13-11-1998 had also hit same number of sixes.
The tenth wicket partnership of 17 runs between Chris Harris and Daryl Tuffey was New Zealand's best for this wicket against all country at this ground bettering the previous best of 15 between Adam Parore and Simon Doull against India on 17-04-1998.
Muralitharan has now taken 28 wickets in 12 day-night matches played at this ground, which makes him the most successful Sri Lankan bowler at Sharjah in day-night encounters. Muralitharan moved ahead of Chaminda Vaas who has a tally of 25 wickets from 16 games. Incidentally Muralitharan already holds the record of being the most successful bowler for Sri Lanka in all matches at this ground with 58 wickets in 30 matches.
Jayawerdene was winning Man of the Match award for the fourth time in his career.
