Glamorgan captain Steve James is still optimistic of being fit in time for the start of the Championship season on April 20th. Newspaper reports in the past week expressed fears that James might miss the first two championship games against Northamptonshire and Somerset after undergoing further knee surgery last week.

But James is still optimistic of being able to lead Glamorgan in their opening Division One game at Northampton. "My knee is quite sore and swollen at the moment, but I haven't ruled myself out of the first game. Some people have speculated that I won't be around for the first couple of weeks of the new season. However, John Fairclough, the club`s surgeon, said the operation went well and that it is possible for me to be back within three weeks."

"It's very frustrating to get this injury at this time, especially as captain, you want to lead by example and be out there in pre-season training with the players, concentrating on cricket and the season ahead rather than worrying about an injury."
