ICC Americas Development Region: Regional body formed at successful Americas Forum
11 April 2001
Cricket in the Western Hemisphere has its own regional body.
A forum attended last week by representatives of 13 countries agreed on a
constitution for what 'Beyond The Test World' understands will be called the
'Cricket Council of the Americas'.
A six man Executive Committee was elected, with the West Indies Cricket
Board of Control Vice President, C. Joseph assuming the post of President.
THe countries in attendance were ICC Associate members - Argentina, Bermuda,
Canada and the United States; Affiliate members - Bahamas, Belize, the Cayman Islands and New Territories - Costa Rica, Cuba, Guadeloupe, Mexico, Panama and Turks & Caicos.
One of the many pluses was the attendance of Guadeloupe and Turks & Caicos, which have previously been uninvolved in the ICC development process.
A five year programme was also announced for various competitions, as well as seminars on various facets of cricket administration.
