PCB clarifies report about Patron's Trophy prize money
Pakistan Cricket Board - 11 April 2001
A PCB spokesmen has clarified a report appearing in an English daily on Wednesday about the final of the Patrons Trophy, as follows:
- In the past, the trophy and prize money for this tournament, had always been
arranged through the sponsors. During the current year the PCB has been without a sponsor for domestic cricket.
- Nevertheless the Director PCB, personally went to the ground to greet the members of both the teams. He announced on-the-spot cash prizes for the winner and runners-up. This was warmly welcomed and appreciated by the players. Later, he conversed with the captain and management of both sides in a very warm and friendly atmosphere, besides handing them their cheques.
- for the future, Director PCB has given instructions that the final of a PCB organized tournament will be held with due ceremony. Prizes and trophies will be irrespective of availability of sponsors. The PCB regrets that the final was without the ceremony that it deserved.
- The Customs Team manager, Mr. Jalaluddin, who has been quoted in the subject piece, personally rang up Director PCB and expressed his concern at the erroneous nature of his quote.
