Northants honour pillars of the grassroots game Northants Media Release - 6 April 2001
Northamptonshire have honoured six men – boasting a combined total of more than 200 years' service to the game in the county – with Honorary Life Membership. The accolades were officially conferred at the club's recent Annual General Meeting, recognising the efforts of half-a-dozen long-serving officials and administrators from the local cricket scene. "We have decided to break with tradition, because in the past Honorary Life Membership has only been awarded to individuals who have given outstanding and lengthy service to the county club itself," said chairman Simon Schanschieff. "But as we become ever closer to the recreational game in the county, we felt it was appropriate to honour those who have done so much to serve cricket within Northamptonshire. Each has made a special contribution for no personal reward, and we are delighted to acknowledge that contribution." The recipients are: Roger Baucutt, who recently retired as secretary of Northampton Town League after 30 years in the post; Harry Johnson, one of the founders of the Northants Cricket League with more than half-a-century of service to that and other cricketing organisations to his credit; John Malfait, the former secretary of the Northamptonshire Cricket Association and a major influence in the coaching and development of young cricketers; Geoff Moss, who stood down last year as the inaugural chairman of the Northamptonshire Championship; Mike Wadsworth, now president of the Higham and District Youth League after 40 years as its secretary; Mick York, former chairman of the Northants County League and recently elected as the inaugural chairman of the Northamptonshire Combination. © CricInfo Ltd.
