Southern Premier League Division 2 - Week 18 Report Mike Vimpany - 4 September 2000
Liphook and Ripsley claimed the Division 2 championship after routing Trojans for 84 - Mayu Pasupati taking 3-17. Liphook won by eight wickets. Lymington gave Portsmouth a run for their money, losing by one wicket in a dramatic finish at Drayton Park. But Portsmouth's championship aspirations had already been shattered by Liphook and Ripsley's eight-wicket trouncing of Trojans, who were bowled out for 84. Lymington posted 167-9 through Ben Craft (64) and Neil Trestrail (31) at Portsmouth, and then reduced their hosts to 118-7 through youngsters Martin Allen (3-21) and Jason Carr (3-43). Hampshire Under-15 player Michael Barnes (38) shone for Portsmouth, who were indebted to tailenders Raj Maru and Pete Hayward for their eventual victory. Paul Marks hit an undefeated 106 as Winchester posted 192-3 before bowling Old Tauntonians & Romsey out for 114 (Dave Greetham 4-31).
