Sri Lanka's Spin Wizard - Murali to be rewarded for his World Record Performance
BCCSL - 28 October 2000

The Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka will present Muttaiah Muralidharan an award of US $ 10,000 (ten thousand) in recognition of his outstanding achievement.

Murali's figures of 7 for 30 in yesterday's match against India in the Sharjah Coca-Cola Champion's Trophy 2000 surpassed the previous World Record performance of 7 for 37 by Aquib Javed - Pakistan (in a match played against India in Sharjah in the Wills Trophy 91 / 92)

Murali's achievement therefore is the best bowling performance in the history of One-Day International cricket.

This is indeed a matter of great pride for All Sri Lankans the World-over and the Board has received an avalanche of congratulatory messages for him. Murali continues to be a driving source of inspiration for young cricketers in Sri Lanka, and his sense of grit and determination a great example to all aspiring sportsmen and women.

Thank you for your publicity.
