Kasprowicz makes encouraging return
John Polack - 29 October 2000

Queensland and former Australian fast bowler Michael Kasprowicz has taken a big step in his comeback from injury with an appearance in a Brisbane first grade match this weekend.

Playing for University against Beenleigh/Logan at St Lucia, the powerful right armer grabbed two wickets in a steady display. In his first stint at the bowling crease in a match since he underwent shoulder surgery in April, he returned figures of 2/35 from eleven overs. Each of the two wickets came during the second of two spells.

While his Bulls' teammates were struggling to put the ball past some broad Tasmanian bats across town at the Allan Border Field in a Pura Cup match, Kasprowicz enjoyed a satisfying day.

"I'm feeling quite good at the moment and I'm satisfied that I've done everything possible to get myself to this point,'' he said.

"This is a good starting point for the next phase. I've got more to do but I was happy today to walk onto a cricket field to play, happy to bowl a ball and happier still that I got a few wickets,'' he said.

The affable paceman is hoping to make a re-appearance at interstate level in December, and a berth in the state's ACB Cup team will likely beckon shortly before that. In 140 first-class matches in his career, Kasprowicz has snared more than 500 wickets at the very impressive average of twenty-six. He has also played sixteen Tests and sixteen One-Day Internationals for his country.
