Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club defeat Bloomfield by 29 runs

Tamil Union beat Bloomfield by 29 runs in their Premier Limited Over Tournament match played at Bloomfield Sports Club today.

Tamil Union won the toss and elected to bat. They scored a challenging 225 before they were bowled out in the 50th over. G. Peiris missed out on a well deserved century by 7 runs, he was the main stay of the Tamil Union side scoring 93 in 118 balls, and hitting 9 boundaries. He was supported well by G. Wijekoon (35) and a quick-fire 36 by Indika de Saram in 27 balls (2 fours and 3 sixes).

P. Wickremasighe picked up 4 wickets for Bloomfield but was expensive; going for 49 runs in his 10 overs. Captain Kumara Dharmasena also chipped in with 3 wickets.

The Bloomfield openers started well but the middle order batsmen did not build on the early foundation. The exception was Kumar Dharmasena, who scored a valuable 48 in 52 balls. The former Sri Lankan wicket keeper batsman, Pubudu Dissanayake (38), and, C. Ruwan (29), also helped their sides cause. Bloomfield were finally bowled out for 195 in the 48th over.

A. Rideegammanagedara and C. Jeganadan bagged 5 wickets between.
