SA Invitation team destroy Bangladesh Keith Lane - 23 October 2000
Pietermaritzburg: - The South African Invitation XI took an unassailable 2:0 lead in the 3 match series against Bangladesh with the help of a lively pitch and Charl Langeveldt's career best figures of 5/7 in only four overs as the Bangladesh middle-order collapsed to set up a convincing 10-wicket win in their limited-overs match at the Oval. With the match having been postponed from Saturday due to wet conditions, the pitch was always going to prove lively and difficult for the side batting first. Charl Willoughby and Mfuneko Ngam, receiving both bounce and sideways movement, had Bangladesh strugling at 24 for three in the first 13 overs before Langeveldt joined the attack. At 51 for eight the match was all but over and with two more wickets falling to Justin Kemp without the addition to the score it turned into a stroll in the park for the South African team. Lacking any real pace to exploit the conditions Bangladesh had to submit to Mark Bruyns (18) and Graeme Smith (28) who knocked off the required runs for the Invitation XI. The third and last match will be a day/night encounter in Durban on Monday. © CricInfo LTD
