Hampshire chairman Brian Ford resigns Vic Isaacs - 17 October 2000
Hampshire chairman Brian Ford (seen here with Alan Mullally and Robin Smith) has rocked Hampshire cricket club by tendering his resignation, half way through his current term of office.
The club committee will sit in an emergancy session later this week to discuss the matter, and nominate someone to take over the roll. The present Vice-Chairman is Bill Hughes, who has masterminded much of the work involved in Hampshire's move to their purpose built new ground at West End. Ringwood based accountant, Ford, talking to The Daily Echo cited pressure of work as the main reason for his sudden departure, but as the Echo reporters commented, there could be other more internal rumblings that were a factor. Ford, was particularly disappointed in the clubs playing performance this past season, especially after the expensive signings of Alan Mullally and Shane Warne, and the failure so far to raise the extra £5 million needed to complete the whole job required for the clubs headquarters. © CricInfo Limited
