A successful tour comes to an end. Ashwell Prince - 14 October 2000
For those people who had been following my diary the progress of the S.A. 'A' side in West Indies, you would know that we have returned by now. The tour in general, if your simply looking for results was quite successful, but from a playing point of view, I think I would have most of the team agree that we were not always on the top of our game. Infact most of the time we were performing below our usual standards. Having said that though, the side has returned home unbeaten in all games, although we were once saved by the rain. That is all part and parcel of the game though and obviously we have no control over the weather. The conditions were very different than what we expected, with the wickets being lower and slower than we expected. The First Class games all ended in draws, the flat wickets and rain obviously contributing to that, but we won every 1 day game comfortably and convincingly. All in all, it was a very good experience on and off the field. The Bob Marley Museum in Jamaica was an interesting experience and there were some other good places that we visited. Players that were impressive on tour were Graeme Smith, Mark Bruyns, Gerald Dros of the batsmen and Mfuneko Ngam, Charl Langeveldt, Charl Willoughby and Garnett Kruger of the bowlers. To all the readers, thanks for following my diary, happy to be home now!!! Cheers, Yeah Man!!!!!
