Sunday 4th June 2000 Nevil Road With UWE still smarting after being denied a maiden victory in the Varsity Rugby contest, attention turns to Nevil Road. Bristol University’s John Craig explained that UWE can expect to stay sore. Amongst the Bristol squad, Middlesex 2nd XI player Rich Minor a left handed opening bat leads an impressive batting line up! Dave Lowe, Nick Prior, Gareth Graham, Rob Bruce (all England Universities) form the backbone of an impressive unit!. For the opposition, James Hamblin (contracted to Hampshire), Mitesh Patel batsman from Warwickshire, Ross Wakeley, Neil Frost, Lancashire 2nd XI bowler, team packed full of county youth players with senior league experience. President, Kie Farrell who holds the club batting record chalking up 214* against Cardiff Medics in 1998, reckons that this ‘the best set of players for the last few years.’ Which is exactly what they said about the rugby. The opening contest of the Oxfam Varsity Matches promises to be a close one and set the standard on and off the pitch for the rest to follow. For further information:
