Moroccan Cricket Club hosts tournament
Tony Munro - 1 May 2000

The Moroccan Cricket Club of Stade Marocain held a three-cornered tournament on April 8 to celebrate the Pakistan National Day, which fell on March 23.

Moroccan Cricket Club official, Fatima Boujoual, provides this report:

"Played at Rabat's Moulay Rachid Institute ground, the tournament involved a Pakistan XI, the host Moroccan club and the Friends Association XI.

It was fitting that the Pakistan XI, drawn from the epicentre of cricket in Morocco, the Pakistan Embassy, should win the tournament with consecutive victories.

Pakistan XI won the first match against the indigenous Moroccan Cricket Club by 110 runs, scoring 177 before skittling the Moroccans for 67.

The victory was set up through Iqbal Ahmad Channer and Tariq, with the latter scoring 100 runs in 11 overs.

It followed this by defeating Friends Association XI, overtaking Friends' 68 to snare the tournament first prize.

Other key players for Pakistan XI were Nadeem Ahmad, a precise fast bowler, who also contributed with the bat in the second match and Afzal Ur Reham, who bowled well in the second match.

As for the Moroccan Cricket Club, there is Abdellatif Benchekroun, a good bowler, Amine Mejjati, who batted impressively and also the left young bowler, Badre.

Friends Association XI Cricketers also produced a good performance during the second match utilising players such as Mirza Mohamed Ali, Dassarut and Benu.

In general, the three teams played well in an atmosphere of joy, discipline and sportive mind in very pleasant spring weather. The match was followed by a speech dedicated towards the National Day of Pakistan and a reception."
