REPORT ON THE HILLCREST GAME Victoria elected to bat first after winning the toss. They had a poor start with the opening partnership between Robertson Chinyengetere and Tapiwa Muzorori putting up 31 runs on the board. Tapiwa was caught off the bowling of Knoll for 7 runs. The introduction of Blessing Mahwire from number four to number three accelerated the run rate before he was bowled for 23 off 16 balls by Robinson. Hillary Matanga came in and maintained the run rate and put on the highest partnership with Robertson Chinyengetere of 67 runs. Hillary was caught off the bowling of Smith who had been a consistent bowler for Hillcrest. Robertson Chinyengetere was not out for 49 runs and Victoria made a total score of 143 runs for 3 wickets in forty overs. After lunch Victoria took the field, Hillcreast could not cope with the tight bowling of the Victorians. Robertson Chinyengetere was the first bowler to claim the wicket of Robinson for two runs. Robertson ended up with two wickets for 18 runs. Blessing Mahwire was the catch of the eye with brilliant pace bowling, claiming 3 wickets. Tapiwa Muzorori also took 3 wickets. Khan and Nerentzouris tried to keep Hillcrest in the game but to their suprise, the Victorians were victorious. Hillcrest made a total score of 54 runs. SCOREBOARD Vic 1st team 143 for 3. Hillcrest 1st team 54 all out RESULTS: Victoria won by 88 runs MAN OF THE MATCH: Robertson Chinyengetere and Blessing Mahwire, both of Victoria High Vic 2nd team 28 all out. Hillcrest 2nd team 255 for 6 RESULTS: Hillcrest won by 227 runs. MAN OF THE MATCH: Alan Penford of Hillcrest RECOMMENDATIONS Victoria High School 1st team is doing very well looking at the games they have won. It will be at the team's advantage and will benefit the country at large if Victoria could play against competitive schools such as Churchill, Prince Edward School, etc. I strongly believe that given the chance Victoria can beat some of the good schools such as the ones mentioned above. Some of these players like Blessing Mahwire, Robertson Chinyengetere, Hillary Matanga and Jemton Chinyengetere have great talent which needs to be exploited for the benefit of the cricket in our country. Meanwhile Victoria High School U-14 team travels to St. Martin's School, Johannesburg, S.A. for a cricket development festival starting on 09 - 11 March 2000. We are using the school DAF 605 bus leaving at 0200h on 08.03.2000 for the 1000 km Jo'burg-bound trip. More news after the 12th March 2000. Happy cricketing!
