Southern Premier League Division 3 - Week 7
Mike Vimpany - 17 June 2000

Shaun Green and Nick Wolstenholme hit centuries as Winchester duo Easton and Martyr Worthy and St.Cross Symondians celebrated high scoring Southern Premier League Division 3 victories.

Green's undefeated 120 swept Easton to a six-wicket win over Hook and Newnham Basics, with Wolstenholme hitting a powerful 111 as St.Cross trimmed plucky Paultons by 27 runs.

Easton, who entertain unbeaten Sparsholt in Sunday's Wadworth 6X Village county final, move into third spot after overhauling Hook and Newnham's 200-8.

Paultons' last two wickets produced 120 runs, but it was not quite enough to deny St.Cross Symondians a high scoring win at Ower.

All appeared lost when Paultons sank to 121-7, in response to a formidable St.Cross total of 268-8.

But Tony Richman (79) and Graham Chalk (40*) hit out bravely as Paultons closed, 27 runs adrift, at 241-9.

Nick Wolstenholme's powerful 111, supported by a timely half-century by Jim Slape (59), dominated the St.Cross innings.

Bill Gunyon (86) and Ian Stuart (63*) led Sparsholt to 232-5 at Ashley and an eventual 20-run victory over New Milton, who were 202-7 at the close.

Australian Sam Miller hit 119 in Old Basing's 232-5 at Waterlooville, who finished only ten runs adrift at 222-7 after Neil Wootton (64), Martin Shepherd (39) and Geoff Beale (27) led a gallant post-tea fightback.

An unbroken opening stand between Queenslander Scott Croker (96) and Tony Stares (65) swept Gosport Borough past Eastleigh's 180 all out (Colin Day 77) and to a ten-wicket win. Spinner Jamie Presswell's 5-32 return for Gosport included a hat-trick.

Lymington II are off the bottom after beating neighbours Bashley (Rydal) II by seven runs.

Lymington's 248-5 owed much to fourth-wicket pair Peter Tapper (80) and Guy Hayward (78 not out), who added 155 before evergreen seamer Trevor Phillips got among the Bashley batsmen.

Iain Britton (80) and Dale Middleton (36) led the Bashley chase, but a spell of 5-52 by Phillips left the host club seven runs adrift at 241 all out.
