Banstead and Diss to meet in Under 15 Club Championship final Kate Laven - 22 August 2000
John Bailey from Banstead CC struck a powerful 66 to see his side through to the finals of the Sun Life Financial Under 15 Club Championships Finals in Basingstoke today. The tall 14 year-old Surrey batsman hit seven fours and three sixes including one over the long off boundary to bring up his half century, steering his side to a convincing win over Derbyshire side, Denby CC. Banstead will now meet Diss in the final this afternoon, with the youngsters playing in front of West Indies legend Brian Lara and England captain Nasser Hussain, who took part in the competition when he was 14. In the second semi-final, Locks Heath were overwhelmed by an impressive Diss line-up. Winning the toss and batting first, Locks Heath made 91 for five off their 20 overs with Matt Light top scoring with 22. But Diss off-spinner Richard West took two wickets and two catches to restrict the Hampshire side from cutting loose then in reply, his skipper David Took opened the batting with Ben Patston and put on 50 for the first wicket to edge them closer to a finals place. When the target was reached in the 15th over, Took was unbeaten on 34 and Diss had lost just two wickets. © CricInfo Ltd
