Sydney Grade: Fairfield news, Round Three Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club - 18 October 1999
Round 3 Limited Overs Rnd 2 v Penrith First Grade were beaten by last years Limited Overs premiers Penrith in the second of the one day overs competition games. Fairfield won the toss and were 8 for 145 after there 50 overs. Anthony Clark 38 and Keith Greenbank 25 batted well. Penrith were 4 wickets down for 146 with Anthony Clark 1 for 33 taking the only wicket with the other three run outs from some excellent fielding. Ben Sawyer bowled well finishing with 0 for 12 off 10 overs. Fairfield - Liverpool v. Eastern Suburbs First Grade Fairfield First Grade 9 for 301 scored its first win of the season beating Eastern Suburbs with 9 balls remaining after Easts declared 8 for 299. Opener Nathan Cook 67 batted well laying the foundation for an excellent win. He was out with the score at 134. Captain Sean Pope top scoring with 70 and Anthony Clark 39 put on 108 runs for the fifth wicket partnership taking the score to 5 for 242. John Boulous 10 not out and Ben Sawyer 3 not out provided the tense finish to an excellent team effort. This winning total of 301 would be one of the highest in a number of seasons at Rosedale Oval. Second Grade Second Grade were beaten after again coming close to a win when they were bowled out for 231 chasing 258 for victory against Eastern Suburbs. David Leishman 47 and opener Shaun Perris 46 were the best of the batsmen. Third Grade Third Grade were beaten by Eastern Suburbs when they were bowled out for 117 in there first innings. Captain Richard Gerdes top scored with 58. Fairfield were forced to follow on and were 3 for 97 in there second innings with Ivan Lozusic the best of the batsmen with 52. Fourth Grade Fourth Grade were beaten by Eastern Suburbs after declaring there first innings 8 for 310. Eastern Suburbs passed Fairfield's score with 5 wickets down finishing 5 for 315. Fairfield did not bowl well with a healthy total to defend. Jason Krejza 2 for 77 and Chris Oliver 1 for 36 the pick of the bowlers. Fifth Grade Fifth Grade already beaten on the first innings last week batted well in there second innings to stop an outright loss. Eastern Suburbs declared 4 for 201 in there first innings 116 runs ahead. Fairfield were all out 164 in there second innings with Easts 1 for 16 at close of play. Matty Williams 48 and Michael Pickham 27 in the second innings were the pick of the batsmen while David Lewis 13 and 22 also batted well. Next week Fairfield play Parramatta in all grades with First Grade at Old Kings and Second Grade home at Rosedale.
