Kumble completes his 250 Test wickets Rajneesh Gupta - 26 October 1999
When he trapped New Zealand opener Matthew Horne lbw in second innings of Kanpur Test,Indian leg spinner Anil Kumble completed his 250 wickets. He became third Indian after Kapil Dev (434 wickets in 131 Tests) and Bishan Singh Bedi (266 wickets in 67 Tests) and 21st bowler (fifth spinner) in Test history to achieve this milestone. Born at Bangalore on 17 October 1970, Anil Kumble started his Test career against England at Manchester on 09 August 1990.Allan Lamb was his first Test wicket. By taking only 55 Tests to complete his 250 wickets Kumble has now become the fourth joint quickest in Test cricket to accomplish this feat in least Tests alongwith Ian Botham, Imran Khan and Shane Warne. Only Dennis Lillee (48), Allan Donald (50), Richard Hadlee (53) and Malcolm Marshall (53) have taken 250 wickets in lesser Tests than Kumble.
