Match-fixing probe report submitted 17 October 1999
Islamabad, Oct 16: The ministry of sports will take three to four days to finalise its recommendations in the light of the report compiled by one-member Inquiry Commission of Justice Malik Mohammad Qayyum of Lahore High Court. The final recommendations will be submitted to the Chief Executive and Chief of Army Staff, General Pervaiz Musharraf, by the federal secretary of sports. The 132-page report was submitted to the federal secretary sports at his office by Registrar of the Inquiry Commission Abdus Salam Khawar. It was later learnt that the final recommendations will be prepared by a committee whose members will be director general Pakistan Sports Board, a deputy director ministry of sports, and a couple of assisting staff. A high ranking official of the ministry told Dawn that any recommendations on a report are in routine prepared by these individuals. It may be added the one-man judicial commission comprising Justice Malik Mohammad Qayyum was appointed by the former government in August 1998 to probe into the allegations of match fixing and betting against members of Pakistan cricket team. The commission was required to submit its reports by Oct31, 1999. The time-frame for preparation of final report was extended by the former government.
