17 October 1999

Islamabad, Oct 16: Chairman Domestic Tournament Monitoring Committee (DTMC) Javed Zaman has said that the Redco department has withdrawn from the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Championship.

He made the announcement late Saturday night. Earlier, the fate of Redco team's participation in the on-going Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Championship was to be decided on Monday following pleas by the Redco players that the department should be allowed to play.

Talking to Dawn, head of the Domestic Tournament Monitoring Committee (DTMC) Javed Zaman maintained that after consultations with Col (R) Naushad Ali who is the Director Operations Cricket Pakistan Cricket Board ad hoc committee, former Test player Hanif Mohammad and Hafiz Manzoor who are co-opted members of the PCB ad hoc committee, the final decision was taken.

The official said, further consultations with the manager of Redco team who has already faxed the withdrawal of his team from the championship citing "unavoidable circumstances" were held before announcing the decision.

He maintained that all Redco players have been given permission to play for any other department or association who will have to pay a late fee for their replacement.

It may be added here that on Saturday the match officials, the two teams Redco-Peshawar had reached the Redco ground and contacted the chairman DTMC to allow them to play.
