Western Warriors begin Sheffield Shield defence.

The Western Warriors Sheffield Shield defence begins at the WACA Ground this Friday, October 15, 1999 when they play their first match of season 1999-2000 against the Victorian Bushrangers.

The back-to-back Sheffield Shield champions have named Brendon Julian captain in the absence of regular skipper Tom Moody and vice-captain Adam Gilchrist, who will both be on their way to Zimbabwe for one-day internationals.

Twenty-year-old left handed batsman Marcus North, from Bayswater-Morley, has been named to make his first-class debut for WA, along with Victorian fast-bowling recruit Brad Williams.
