Western Australian fast bowler Matthew Nicholson has been drafted into the Australian squad as a replacement for Scott Muller.
Nicholson steps in for Queensland paceman Muller, who damaged the ring finger on his left hand during fielding practice before the third day of the final Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo on Saturday.
Nicholson’s travel arrangements are yet to be finalized but it is likely that he will fly out of Melbourne on Wednesday to link up with the rest of the Australian squad in Hong Kong, where they will be en route from Sri Lanka to Zimbabwe.
Once he has joined the squad, he will remain with the touring party until the end of the trip on 25 October.
Nicholson will become the second replacement to be called up for the Foxtel Australia Cricket Tour of Sri Lanka and Zimababwe. Muller was summoned to take over from South Australia fast bowler Jason Gillespie, who broke his leg in a collision with Stephen Waugh during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Kandy.
Nicholson has played one Test match for Australia, against England in Melbourne last December, taking 4-115. Last summer he took 37 first-class wickets at 24 runs each with a career-best 7-77 against an England XI at the WACA.
The Zimbabwe leg of the tour will include one Test match, the first between the two countries, as well as three one-day internationals.
