West Indies domestic: St. Catherine in control Owen Estwic - 22 November 1999
Summarised reports on the second day of the 12th series of Courts Suzuki Division 1 yesterday: At Ashton Hall: St. Catherine 173, Schools North 50-7 BNB St. Catherine were in an excellent position against CHIC Schools North. After new-ball pair Brian Shepherd and Dayne Maynard reduced the schoolboys to nine runs for five wickets, wicket-keeper Marlon Clarke and Jason Collins featured in a sixth-wicket stand of 37. But just before the close, captain Roger Blades removed both in consecutive overs. Before Blades? double strike, Maynard dispatched Jason Parris for a duck and Shepherd fired out Corey Clarke, Rohan Nurse and 14-year-old trial invitee Kurt Edwards for a duck. Sadiq Hill was then run out without scoring. Earlier, St. Catherine resuming from 50 for one overnight, reached a respectable total through useful contributions from Shawn Sargeant (44), who fell in the 40s yet again, Patrick Browne (32), Horace Waldron (23) and Thelston Payne (21). Left-armer Hill was the most successful bowler with five for 52. - Ezra Stuart At Trents: Maple 82, Empire 156-6 ICB Empire took first innings lead, and with it firm control of the match. Maple resumed at their overnight 64 for two and, batting with two men absent, were bundled out on a nightmarish pitch. Ryan Hurley, who topscored with 24, and Jefferson Gibbons (20) added 41 for the third wicket, but no-one else reached double figures. Pacer Patterson Thompson, with three wickets in as many overs, and all-rounder Marlon Blaggrove, who bagged five for 41, were the destroyers. When Empire batted, they slipped to 13 for three, but solid knocks from the middle-order helped them to establish a good lead by the close. Shawn Graham anchor-ed the innings with an unbeaten 42 scored in 161 minutes. Ricky Hoyte looked in good knick, slamming two threes and three fours in 40 off 71 balls, and all-rounder Sherlon Greaves stroked an unbeaten 32 off 27 balls. - Floyd Branker At Kensington Oval: Schools South 129 and 41-1, Pickwick 133-8 dec. Schools South were 37 runs on with nine second innings wickets in hand at the end of the day. Aggressive opener Alcindor Holder, with an unbeaten 27 that included two sixes and two fours, was steering the innings after Pickwick declared after tea at 133 for eight. The schoolboys, who restarted yesterday on 125 for seven, were quickly dismissed for 129 before Pickwick overtook the opposition?s total and later picked up a wicket in the last 40 minutes. Spinner Ryan Austin kept the Pickwick batsmen in check, picking up four for 37 from 13 overs. - Bernard Babb At Wildey: BET 135 & 138-6, Carlton 127 Medium-pacer Antonio Mayers took seven for 39 on an unpredictable pitch to help Cable and Wireless BET lead United Carlton by eight runs. Carlton, continuing from their overnight score of 63 for three, fell short in spite of Jason Clarke?s belligerent 75. Ron Bates (44) and Rommel Brathwaite (40) gave BET a good boost in their second innings, helping them to a lead of 146. Off-spinner Marlon Graham captured five for 59 to bring his match haul to 11. - Ancille Inniss At Beckles Road: BCL 186-8 dec?d and 11-1. YMPC 123. On an easy-paced pitch Richard Foster produced a career-best performance - seven for 35 from 17 overs - to give BCL a good lead.
