for New Zealand.New Zealand has lost both its matches on this ground.
- Umpires VM Gupte and SK Sharma were officiating in their second and
eighth match respectively.
- India has not lost a ODI series on home soil since losing to West
Indies in 1987-88.Out of the 11 series played since then,India has won

Note : This tally is limited only to India's performance in a

- Devang Gandhi was making his ODI debut.He became the 127th player
to make an ODI appearance for India in ODIs.It took him as many as 18
balls to open his account.However adding 117 runs for the opening
wicket with Saurav Ganguly,Gandhi became the third Indian to get
involved in a century partnership on ODI debut.Others to do so are
Raman Lamba (added 102 runs for second wicket with Krish Srikkanth
against Australia at Jaipur on 07-09-1986) and Amay Khurasiya (added
125 runs for fourth wicket with Ajay Jadeja against Sri Lanka at Pune
on 30-03-1999).
- Roger Twose was playing his 50th match.He became the 29th New
Zealander and 209th player to do so.
- Sunil Joshi,when dismissed Twose,completed his 50 wickets in ODIs
in his 51st match.He became the 15th Indian and the 112th bowler in
ODI history to do so.
- Sachin Tendulkar was dismissed without scoring for the 12th time in
his career (his third on Indian soil).Among Indians only Kapil Dev
(13) has recorded ducks on more occasions,while fellow team-mates
Javagal Srinath and Anil Kumble have also recorded 12 ducks each.
- The stumping of Ganguly was Adam Parore's 85th dismissal in his
97th match as 'keeper.He has now equalled the tally of fellow
countryman Ian Smith (97 matches) to become the wicketkeeper with most
dismissals in a career for New Zealand.
- Chris Cairns conceded 9 runs in his seven overs.He now shares the
record of conceding least runs in a seven over spell for New Zealand
with two other bowlers.Ewen Chatfield had returned the figures of
7-2-9-2 against Australia at Adelaide on 27-01-1986 and Gavin Larsen
had the figures of 7-5-9-0 against Sri Lanka at Wellington on
27-03-1997.
- Saurav Ganguly won the MoM award for the 18th time in his career.He
thus equalled Mohammad Azharuddin's tally of MoM awards.Now only
Sachin Tendulkar (35) has won more awards than him for India.
